Welcome to the Governors' page of the Havelock Schools website. I hope you will find all you need here about how we operate and how we support your children at Havelock Schools.
We are the Local Governing Board for both Havelock Infant and Havelock Junior Schools, working together as one board with delegated responsibilities from Symphony Learning Trust. Our governors come from a wide range of backgrounds, but we're all here with the same vision and that is to help every child at Havelock get the best possible education experience.
Governing is a voluntary role, and one we take seriously. We form part of the extended leadership of the school, acting as a critical friend to the leaders within the school. In practice, our job is to work alongside the school's leadership to:
- set the strategic direction, vision and ethos of our schools
- monitor and challenge progress against our priorities
- recruit and support the Headteacher
- act as a responsible employer
- make sure our schools meet their statutory duties
- safeguard our finances
- look after our school premises
- keep our school community informed
We meet six times a year and each meeting has a different focus across the year, tapping into one of the priorities listed above.
Thinking about becoming a governor?
We'd love to hear from you. You don't need to be an education expert — just genuinely interested in helping our schools do the best they can for children in this community. Parent governors serve a four-year term and are elected by other parents; all governors, whatever their route onto the board, receive full induction training and ongoing support, including access to Trust training and relevant courses by reputable providers.

All Governors receive induction training and support and have access to a full range of training programmes and modules from in-house training, NNC training and the NGA.

The Local Governing Body has representatives from the Community, Staff and Parents. Parent Governors are elected by the parents and serve a four year term. Governors meet 6 times a year to discuss school issues. All meetings are minuted and the minutes are available for inspection.
