Welcome from the Chair of Governors, Hannah Henry

Welcome to the Governors’ page of our Havelock Schools website.

We are a Federated Governing Body which means that we have responsibility for both Havelock Infant and Havelock Junior Schools. We first federated in September 2015.  The members of our Governing Body are listed in this section of the website.

Our primary purpose is to ensure the quality of education provision and to act as the accountable body for two schools. We are also part of the Montsaye Community Learning Partnership and work closely with the Trust Board in carrying out our work.

We have a number of key roles in the running of the school. These are to:

  • set the strategic direction, vision and ethos of the school;
  • monitor and challenge the progress of the school in achieving its priorities;
  • recruit and performance manage the headteacher;
  • exercise employer responsibility;
  • ensure that the schools meet their statutory responsibilities;
  • ensure financial probity;
  • ensure the premises are well managed;
  • report to the school’s stakeholders.

 We are proud to have been recognised as an effective governing body by Ofsted but we also strive to continually improve.  Each year we agree a Governors Improvement Plan that sets out key priorities development.  In 2018/2019 these are:

SDP Priority 1:  LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT   (Linked to Finance and Premises Committee and Pay and Performance Committee)

To ensure there is sufficient budget to drive forward the work of the school in monitoring and improving standards of education, whilst being mindful of staff wellbeing.  Increasingly support parents, governors and pupils to be involved in shaping the further development of the schools.

SDP Priority 2:  QUALITY OF TEACHING AND LEARNING  (Linked to Quality and Standards Committee)

To further develop  a varied cross curricular approach to learning which engages children’s thinking skills and encourages independent learners who acquire the ability to apply their writing skills in order to boost progress and attainment.

SDP Priority 3: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT BEHAVIOUR  AND WELFARE  (Linked to Safeguarding and Inclusion Committee)

To develop outstanding SEN provision from Yr R to Yr 6 which is tracked to ensure children’s needs are met.  To ensure that positive behaviour management encourages physically and mentally healthy life styles including actively teaching how to develop constructive relationships

SDP Priority 4: OUTCOMES  (Linked to Quality and Standards committee)

To continue to raise standards at the end of EYFS, KS1 and KS2 for all pupils by ensuring pupils are fully challenged in their learning and make progress inline with their different starting points.
