Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child into Reception. Our half-termly newsletters will inform you of our topics and the areas we will be covering, as well as any additional information you need to know.

Please feel free to come and speak to us about how your child is settling in, developments you would like to share or any concerns you have. If this is a quick message, please speak to a member of staff in the classroom in the morning or please catch us at the end of the day. If it is something that will need longer, please make an appointment for a more convenient time. As you can appreciate mornings are very busy but we do want to hear from you and will do our very best to see you the same day. Home/School link books are checked every day, but if it is something that we might need to know during the school day, please let us know in the morning.

Joining us in the morning

Join us in school from 8.50am to 9.05am on Thursdays to read with your child and on Mondays and Wednesdays for morning activities.

Named clothing

Please can we remind you to make sure all your child's items of clothing are named, particularly cardigans, sweatshirts and shoes.  If your child does come home with clothing that doesn't belong to them please return it as soon as possible.   PE days are Mondays and Thursdays for all Reception classes.  Please can you make sure any earrings are taken out before school on PE days and that long hair is tied up.  We do not need plimsolls or trainers for PE until the Summer Term when we can do some lessons outside.

Reading books

Children can change their reading book on any day as long as there is evidence in the Home/School link book that it has been read on two separate occasions.  The children are asked to read twice to ensure comprehension and encourage expression and fluency.  If your child needs to change their reading book, please put the reading book and their Home School Link book in the cream box in the classroom so we can change it during the day.

Homework is set on Thursdays and handed in by Tuesday. We also include a handwriting sheet for your child to practise their letter formation and this goes in the blue folder sent out with the homework book.  Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need any further information, we are grateful for your continued support.

Reading Week

Every half term for a week we invite you in school to come and read with your child between 3pm & 3:10pm, we send dates for Reading Week on the newsletter. When possible, we also go to the Desborough Library during Reading Week and we will let you know the timings for each class in the termly newsletter.

If you are able to assist us on any trips or walks during the year, please let us know.
